FAQ's

New single-family homes, duplexes, and manufactured homes require home fire sprinkler systems. Existing homes that are remodeled will also likely need to add a fire sprinkler system.

Fire sprinklers are activated when the temperature of the liquid-filled bulb in the sprinkler reaches 155-286 degrees Fahrenheit. Smoke from cooking or smoking a cigar or cigarette will not activate the fire sprinkler.

In-home fire sprinklers are intended to address any fire close to the sprinkler inside the home, not the exterior of the home. Sprinklers can be installed under the exterior eaves of the home to help protect the home exterior, but this would not protect the roof from flying embers.

The fire sprinkler closest to the fire will activate. Other fire sprinklers in the home will only activate if there is a fire near them.
Yes, you may have only 1-2 minutes or less to escape once a fire has broken out in your home. A smoke detector will alert you of a potential fire likely before the heat of the fire activates the sprinkler, therefore, giving you more time to escape.
Possibly, contact your insurance provider to see if they offer any discounts.

Homes in the Truckee/Tahoe area have antifreeze installed in the systems so there is no need for any extra steps to winterize your system. The room or area that contains the fire sprinkler equipment must be kept at a minimum of 40 degrees or protected from freezing.

Some areas require an annual inspection for residential fire sprinkler systems. All commercial systems require an annual inspection. Given the potential risk a fast-moving fire poses to family and property, we highly recommend annual inspection to ensure the system is fully operational. To schedule your annual inspection, please call or send a request through our contact page.

Water/antifreeze will start to spray and the exterior bell will sound. Smoke alarms may also sound if they are tied into the fire sprinkler system.
